Due to the high number of out-of-school children and tackling malnutrition due to poverty among Nigerian children, the federal government in 2016 introduced the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) to address the situation and improve the abysmally high number of out-of-school children.

President Buhari in his 2019 next-level campaign promised to increase the number of enrolled children from 9.2 million to 15 million which is meant to improve further the situation of malnourished and out-of-school children in the country.

In a report by  Chike Olisah, “Aishatu Digil, the Team Lead of NHGSFP, at a stakeholders’ meeting on disbursement modalities for the review of the cost of feeding in the programme in Abuja pointed out that 9,990,862 pupils from primary one to three in the programme would now be fed with N100 daily for 20 days in a month, which would amount to N999,086,200 million daily”.

The number given by the team lead of NHGSFP is far from the number promised by President Buhari, Nonetheless, the program is still active.

Therefore, this promise is rated In the Works.
