In a bid to combat lawbreaking and insecurity, the Peter Obi-led Anambra State Government of 2010 set up the Anambra State Security Trust Fund to raise funds to tackle the menace of crime. Then in 2018, during the tenure of Governor Willie Obiano, the Anambra State House of Assembly successfully passed a bill to amend the Anambra State Security Trust Fund Law of 2010, with the objective of enhancing its provisions. The amendment included the addition of representatives from pertinent security agencies, such as the Nigeria Prisons Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Navy, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, and State Vigilante Supervising Committees, as members of the Board of the Security Trust Fund.

Recently, after seeing the devastation insecurity had caused, and to solve the security challenges in the state, Governor Soludo promised to amend and fullly implement Anambra State Security Trust Fund Law, 2010 to mobilise and deploy funds towards the procurement of necessary equipment and training of security personnel.

During the launch of the state security fund held in Lagos, in June 2022, Governor Chukwuma Soludo stated that political agitators in the Southeast have formed a criminal enterprise and that the perpetrators have not only disrupted economic activities but also held the people hostage for a while. He cited the example of the Monday Sit-at-Home order as an example of such harassment.

While awaiting the amendment of the law by Governor Soludo, we have decided to rate this promise In the Works, based on the disbursement of the funds as promised by the Governor.
